For more
than 50 years, three generations of the Ebner
family have been active in summer camping. Mr.
and Mrs. Oscar Ebner Sr. first became affiliated
with Camp Awosting in the '30's and became owners
and directors in 1948. In 1955, they founded the
sister camp, Chinqueka. For the past 30 years,
their children, Barbara and Oscar (Buzz),
have taken active roles in the administration of
the camps, and are the current owners and
directors. The combined camping
experience of the Ebner family totals well over
two hundred years!
Chris
Tucci (Pictured 3rd from Left) is director of Camp
Awosting, having joined our camp family in 2004. He currently
teaches at the Warner Center for Arts Education and is a
football coach at Gilbert High School. He holds a BA from
Muskingum College and an MFA from UCLA. He spent his summers
at Camp Hidden Hollow in Ohio and Camp Gunnison in Colorado as
a child. Buzz Ebner
and his wife Sherry (pictured 1st and 2nd from Left) are
Directors Emeritus of Camp
Awosting. Buzz has been director of Awosting since 1975. Sherry
oversees the health and food programs at both camps. Both have
been at Awosting for over 40 years. They are the "engine" that
makes Awosting run - combining caring and fun to make sure
each camper is treated like one of their own children.
Pictured here with Steve Jepson (Waterfront Director), Pauline Jepson,
and Rachel & Ian Endersby (Camp Administration). Ian and Rachel are part of Awosting's camp administration staff and have been with us for
more than 20 years. Steve and Pauline Jepson have been part of
our camp family for many years as well, working as the
Waterfront Director and Pauline part of Awosting's administration.
Chris, Buzz and Sherry are licensed as camp directors by the
State of Connecticut.
Kristin Martin
(daughter of Buzz and Sherry Ebner) is director of Camp Chinqueka,
having grown up at the camp and been involved in the management
and administration for nearly 20 years. Barbara Ebner, an ACA-recognized
summer camping pioneer, is Director Emeritus at Chinqueka and is
still actively involved at camp as a consultant. Barb has been on the staff at Camp Chinqueka
since its founding in 1955. Kris was a camper at Chinqueka for
her entire youth and has been a staff member at both Awosting
and Chinqueka ever since, including Head Counselor, Program
Director and Waterfront Director. Both Barb and Kris are
licensed as a camp directors by the State of
Connecticut. Pictured here with Mary Freeman, an administrator
at Chinqueka, who has been with us for nearly 20 years.
